PRIMARY 1

Our Primary 1 Enrichment programme provides a more rounded education for P1 students, helping them overcome challenges in learning Chinese at school and achieve better grades. It supplements the local P1 Chinese syllabus and offers a unique opportunity to improve a child’s command of both spoken and written Chinese. We continually develop and update our P1 Chinese curriculum to align with the latest MOE syllabus and guidelines.

Challenges Faced by P1 Students in Learning Chinese

1. Difficulty with Character Recognition

For many P1 students, learning to recognise and write Chinese characters can be overwhelming. The complex structure of characters and the need to memorise them can frustrate young learners.

2. Struggles with Sentence Construction

At this level, students are just beginning to form basic sentences. P1 Chinese students often face challenges in constructing grammatically correct sentences, as they may not yet have a strong grasp of sentence structure and word order.

3. Limited Vocabulary

With a growing need to express themselves in Chinese, P1 students often struggle with a limited vocabulary. This can make reading and comprehension difficult, as students may not know enough words to understand texts fully.

4. Pronunciation and Oral Skills

Speaking confidently and accurately in Chinese can be intimidating for P1 students. The language’s tonal nature makes it particularly challenging, as young learners may have difficulty pronouncing words correctly.

5. Adaptation to Formal Learning

The transition to formal schooling presents challenges in focus and discipline. P1 students may find it difficult to sit through longer lessons and adjust to structured learning environments, especially in subjects like Chinese.
