P2 Chinese Programme

PRIMARY 2

At Primary 2, students are expected to build on the foundations acquired in Primary 1 and work towards greater independence in their learning. Our Primary 2 Chinese programme supplements the MOE syllabus and supports students in strengthening their skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

Lessons focus on expanding vocabulary, reinforcing sentence structures, and developing comprehension skills. By keeping the curriculum closely aligned with the latest MOE requirements, the programme helps students to gain confidence in using Chinese both inside and outside the classroom.

Challenges Faced by Primary 2 Chinese Students

At Primary 2, children often encounter new learning expectations as they transition from foundational skills to more complex applications. The following are common challenges in Primary 2 Chinese learning:

As texts become longer and more detailed, students may struggle to keep up with the wider range of words required. A limited vocabulary can affect both comprehension and expression.

Primary 2 learners are expected to read more independently. Some students may find it difficult to understand longer passages or to identify key points in a text, which can affect overall performance in comprehension.

Students at this stage are required to form sentences that are not only correct but also coherent. Errors in word order or grammar may prevent them from expressing ideas clearly.

The ability to speak clearly and confidently becomes increasingly important. Students may find oral examinations challenging, particularly with the tonal nature of the language.

As examinations and tests become more regular, students may struggle with revision skills and the discipline needed to prepare effectively.
